And we put them in the can で「そして私たちはそれらをその缶の中に入れた」です。
put ～ in … で「～を…の中に入れる」です。
them は前回から、ガレージの裏で拾った何の変哲もないいくつかの石のことですね。
the can は前述した「ドラム式の石の研磨機」のことです。
put は過去・過去分詞とも put と同じ型になる動詞です。ここでは原型の put と同じ形ですが、意味は過去形になっています。

with a little bit of liquid and a little bit of grit powder で「ほんのちょっとの液体と、ほんのちょっとの砂の粉と一緒に」です。
a little bit of ～ で「ほんの少量の～」です。
grit powder は「グリッドパウダー、砂の粉」です。
石を回転させて研磨する時に「研磨剤」となるものですね。

and we closed the can up, で「そしてわたしたちはその缶を閉めた」
close ～ up で「～を閉める、～を閉じる」となります。
and he turned this motor on 「そして彼は、このモーターの電源をONにした」です。
turn ～ on で「～のスイッチを入れる」です。

and he said, come back tomorrow.「そして彼は言った、明日また来いと」
研磨が完了するまでには24時間近く時間がかかるわけですね。

And this can was making a racket, で「そしてこの缶は騒音を立てていた」です。
make a racket で「騒音を立てる、ガタガタ言う」です。
racket は「（テニスなどの）ラケット」という意味もありますが、ここでは「騒音、大騒ぎ」という意味です。
例：The students made a racket at the welcoming party.「学生たちは歓迎パーティーでどんちゃん騒ぎをした。」
as the stones went off. で「その石たちが暴れ出したので、暴れ出して」です。
go off は「突然鳴り出す、爆発する」という意味ですので、
ここではドラムが回りだして石が「暴れ出した」という意味になっています。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

そして私たちはその石たちをその缶の中に入れた

with a little bit of liquid
ほんの少量の液体と一緒に

and a little bit of grit powder
