Some of our octogenarian couples could bicker with each other day in and day out, but as long as they felt that they could really count on the other when the going got tough, those arguments didn’t take a toll on their memories.

で「被験者の80歳代の夫婦の中には、毎日口喧嘩ばかりしている人たちもいます。しかし、いざとなったらお互い信頼できると本当に感じている限り、そのような言い争いは彼らの記憶力に悪い影響を与えませんでした。」という意味になります。

Some of our octogenarian couples で「我々の被験者の80代の夫婦（の中には～な人もいる）」です。
octogenarian は何度かできてきましたが「80歳の人」という意味になります。
100歳の人は centenarian センテ[ネ]ァリアンです。

could bicker with each other で「お互いに言い争いをすることもある」です。
could はここでは可能性を意味して「～かもしれない、～することもあり得る」です。
bicker は「口げんかする、言い争う」という意味の動詞です。
言い換えで argue とも言えます。
例：political bickering「政治論争」
day in and day out で「毎日毎日、来る日も来る日も」という意味のコロケーションです。
ひとまとまりで覚えてしまいましょう。
day を入れ替えて year in and year out「毎年毎年、年がら年中」などとも言えます。

but ～ で「しかし～」
as long as they felt (that) ～「彼らが～だと感じている限り（～だった）」です。
どう感じている限りかというと、that節以降で、
(that) they could really count on the other 「彼らが本当に相手を当てにできると」
count on ～ で「～を当てにする、～を頼りにする」です。
the other は「（カップルの中での）相手、片割れ」です。
when the going got tough, で「いざとなったら、状況が厳しくなった時」です。
when the going gets tough でひとまとまりの決まり文句ですが、
主語の the going は「成り行き、進展」といった意味になります。

そうである限り（as long as ～）
those arguments didn’t take a toll on their memories. で「それらの口論は、彼らの記憶力に悪い影響を与えなかった」です。
argument で「口論、議論、口げんか」です。
take a toll on ～ で「～に犠牲を出す、～に損害を与える」という意味のイディオムです。
例：take a heavy toll on society「社会に多大な犠牲を与える」
toll は名詞では「死者数、犠牲者数」または「（通行・電話）料金」という意味があります。
また「（死者を告げる）鐘の音」、動詞では「（鐘が）ゆっくりと鳴る」という意味もあります。
例：For Whom the Bell Tolls「誰がために鐘は鳴る」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
