口freedom 音声 フ[リ]ー・ダム 自由 ■be taken away 取り上げられる ■take away 取り上げる,奪い取る 口dumb 音声 [ダ]ム 沈黙,口がきけないこと ■be led 導かれる 口slaughter 音声 ス[ロ]ー・ター 食肉処理,大虐殺 ※ 引用元：George Washington Quotes - BrainyQuote https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/g/georgewash146824.html If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter. で「もしスピーチの自由を奪われたら、私たちの行きつくところは無言と沈黙だ。まるで食肉処理に向かう羊のように。」という意味になります。 If ～ then …で「もし～なら、それなら…だ」という意味になります。 the freedom of speech 「スピーチの自由」ですね。 is taken away で「奪われる、取り上げられる」です。 take away ～ で「を取り上げる」という意味になります。 例：take away someone's mobile「人の携帯を取り上げる」 If the freedom of speech is taken away「もしスピーチの自由を奪われたら」 then「その時は」 dumb and silent we may be led で「無言と沈黙に私たちは導かれる」です。 dumb は「沈黙」で、もともと「口のきけない、言葉の不自由な」という意味です。 silent も同じような意味ですが「無声の、無言の、口に出せない」という意味合いです。 we may be led で「私たちは導かれる（かも）」です。 led は lead「～へ導く、連れて行く」の過去・過去分詞です。 like sheep to the slaughter で「まるで食肉処理場に（向かう）羊のように」です。 like は「～のように」です。 slaughter は「食肉処理、大量虐殺」という意味の名詞です。 例：go to slaughter「（動物などが）解体される」
