Mark Zuckerberg のハーバード大学の卒業式でのスピーチ（2017年）です。

Purpose is that sense that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, that we are needed, that we have something better ahead to work for. Purpose is what creates true happiness. You’re graduating at a time when this is especially important. When our parents graduated, purpose reliably came from your job, your church, your community.

で「目的とは、自分が何か自分自身よりも大きなものの一部であるという感覚、自分が必要とされているという感覚、そしてより良い未来のために努力すべき何かがあるという感覚です。目的こそが、本当の幸せを生み出します。あなたが卒業する今というこの時代は、特にこの“目的”が重要になっています。私たちの親の世代が卒業した頃は、目的は安定して仕事や教会、地域社会から得られるものでした。」という意味になります。

Purpose is that sense で「目的とはあの感覚です」
同格のthat で繋いで、
that sense that ～「～というあの感覚」
(that) we are part of something bigger than ourselves, で「私たちは自分よりも大きな何かの一部だ（というあの感覚）」
さらに同格のthat ～ で
(that) we are needed,「私たちは必要とされている（というあの感覚）」
さらに、
(that) we have something better ahead to work for. で「私たちにはもっと良いものがある、この先に、それに向かって頑張るための」です。
something better で「より良いもの」
work for ～ で「～に向かって頑張る」です。

Purpose is what creates true happiness. で「目的とは、本当の幸せを創り出すものだ」です。
what は「～するもの、～すること」という意味の関係代名詞。
ここでは主語になって、what creates ～「～を創り出すもの」となります。

You’re graduating at a time when ～ で「みなさんは～な時に卒業している」です。
(when) this is especially important. で「これが特に重要な（時に）」です。

When our parents graduated,「私たちの親たちが卒業した時は」
purpose reliably came from ～ で「目的は安定して～から来ていた」です。
reliably は「安定して、頼もしくも」という意味の副詞。
例：reliably maintained「確実に維持された」
(from) your job, your church, your community. で「仕事、教会、地域社会（から）」です。
community は、共通の趣味などを持つ団体・コミュニティーという意味以外にも「地域社会、ご近所づきあい」という意味があります。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

私たちは必要とされている（という）
