one must understand Dead Man. で「人は死者を理解しなければならない」です。

This is because,「これは～だからだ」
挿入的に , since views are now split by age,「今は年齢によって意見が分断されているから」です。
views は「ものの見方、見解、意見」です。
the Grim Reaper plays an outsize role. で「死神が過大な影響力を持っている（からだ）」
the Grim Reaper は「死神」です。
grim は「厳しい、険しい、暗い」
reap で「刈る」
大きな鎌（scythe）を持った死神のイメージです。
plays an outsize role で「並外れた大きな役割を果たしている」です。
play a ～ role で「～な役を果たす」です。
outsize で「標準外の、特大の」という意味の形容詞です。

For example,「例えば、例を出すと」
the dead are among the strongest supporters of Brexit. で「死んだ者たちは、ブレグジットの最大の支持者の一部である」です。
the dead で「死んだ者たち、すでに亡くなった人々」です。
the + 形容詞 で「～な者たち」という意味が作れます。
among ～ で「（集団の）～の中の一部、～の中で」です。
the strongest supporters of Brexit. で「ブレグジットの強力な支持者たち」です。
Brexit は2020年のイギリスのEU離脱のことです。
British + exit を合わせたかばん語（portmanteau） です。

Two-thirds of those who ～ で「～した者たちの3分の2」です。
Two-thirds of ～ で「～の3分の2」です。
shuffled off this mortal coil で「死んだ、この世を去った」という意味のイディオムです。
直訳すると「この死すべき混乱をから引きずるように抜け出た」です。
シェイクスピアの劇『ハムレット』から生まれたフレーズです。
after 2020「2020年以降に（死んだ）」
supported leaving the EU. で「EUからの離脱を支持していた」です。

But their influence lives on. で「しかし彼らの影響力は生き続けている。」です。
their は2020年以降に死んだ人々を指しています。
