本日の例文

TED-Edより「先延ばし魔の頭の中はどうなっているか」です。

But then, the funniest thing happened. Those first few months? They came and went, and I couldn’t quite do stuff. So we had an awesome new revised plan. But then those middle months actually went by, and I didn’t really write words, and so we were here. And then two months turned into one month, which turned into two weeks.

But then those middle months actually went by, and I didn’t really write words, and so we were here. And then two months turned into one month, which turned into two weeks.
で「でもその後すごくおかしなことが起こったんです。最初の数か月？ あっという間に過ぎてしまって、私はほとんど何もできませんでした。だから、すごく素晴らしい新しい改訂プランを立てたんです。でもその中盤の数か月も実際に過ぎ去ってしまって、私は本当に文章を書けなかった。それで、私たちはここにいるわけです。そして、2か月は1か月になり、それがさらに2週間になってしまったんです。」という意味になります。

But then,「しかしその後」
the funniest thing happened.「すごく変なことが起こったんです。」
the funniest thing は、形上は最上級ではあるものの、ここでは単に強調表現にとどまって「すごく～な、非常に～な」という意味合いです。日常会話でよくある「大げさ表現」の一つです。

Those first few months? 「あの最初の数カ月は？」
They came and went,「それらはあっという間に過ぎ去ってしまいました」です。
come and go で「現れてはすぐ消える」という意味のはかなさを表す慣用表現。
, and「そして～」
I couldn’t quite do stuff.「わたしはほとんど何もできなかった。」
can’t quite ～ で「完全には～できない、いまひとつ～できない」という意味のコロケーションです。
stuff は a thing／things と同じ意味です。

So「なので～」
we had an awesome new revised plan.「私たちはすごく素晴らしい新しい改訂プランを立てた。」です。
have a plan で「計画を持つ、立てる、思いつく」
awesome は「すごくいい、すばらしい、いけてる」
revised リヴァイズドゥで「改訂された、修正された」です。
例：revised and enlarged edition「改訂増補版」

But then ～「しかしその後」
those middle months actually went by,「あれらの中盤の数カ月は実際に過ぎ去ってしまった」
go by も come and go と同じような意味で「過ぎ去る」です。
例：As Time Goes By「時の過行くままに（曲名）」
ここでの actually は「本当に」という意味よりも、「気付いたら、案外、結局」と、驚き／意外性／落胆のニュアンスを出しています。

, and「それでも～」
I didn’t really write words, 「私はまともに文章なんて書かなかった」です。
ここでもし words が a word だったら「一切書かなかった」となりますが、ここでは words なので「ちょっとは書いたけどまともには書いていない」というニュアンスになっています。

, and so ～「そういうわけで～」
we were here.「私たちは今ここにいます」

And then ～「そしてその後」
two months turned into one month,「２カ月が一カ月となり」
which turned into two weeks.「それはさらに２週間となりました。」です。
which ～ は one month を主語に取った関係代名詞節で「（その一カ月が）今度は２週間になってしまった」です。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

But then,
しかしその後

the funniest thing happened.
非常におかしなことが起こったんです

Those first few months?
あの最初の２～３カ月？

They came and went,
すぐに過ぎ去ってしまいました

and I couldn’t quite do stuff.
でも私はほとんど何も書けてませんでした

So
それで

we had an awesome new revised plan.
いい感じの新しい改訂プランを立てました

But then
でもその後

those middle months actually went by,
あの中盤の数カ月は結局過ぎ去ってしまいました

and I didn’t really write words,
なのに私はまともに数行も書いていませんでした

and so we were here.
そういうわけで私たちは今ここになりました

And then
そしてその後

two months turned into one month,
２カ月が１カ月になり

which turned into two weeks.
それは２週間になってしまいました

今度は「頭の中で」一行ずつ日本語に訳しながら…
