で「美徳や知恵は崇高なものだが、それが “誇り（pride）” や “他者から自分を切り離す意識（separateness）” を生むのなら、それは結局、低位の自己（エゴ）という蛇が、より洗練された姿で再び現れているだけだ。」という意味になります。

Virtue and wisdom are ～ で「美徳や知恵は～」
sublime things,「崇高なもの（である）」です。
sublime サブ[ラ]イムは「卓越した、荘厳な、崇高な」という意味の形容詞。
, but ～「だが～」
if they create ～「もし、それらが～を生み出すなら」です。
they は virtue and wisdom を指しています。
pride and a consciousness of ～ で「自尊心と、～の意識」です。
pride は「自尊心、プライド、誇り」です。
consciousness は「意識、気付いていること」です。
形容詞形は conscious [コ]ンシャスで「意識のある、自覚している」です。
何の意識かというと、
(consciousness of) separateness from the rest of humanity, で「自分以外の人々からの分離（という意識）」です。
つまり、自分は他の人々とは違うのだ、という特権階級的な意識・優越感ですね。
もしそうならば、
they are only the snakes of self で「それらは、ただ自己の蛇に過ぎない」です。
they は先程と同様 virtue and wisdom を指しています。
the snakes of self は「自分自身（エゴ）という蛇」です。
snake は西洋ではとても邪悪なもの象徴（誘惑・欺瞞・堕落）です。イヴをそそのかし禁断のリンゴを食べさせたのも蛇ですね。
ここでは「エゴ、うぬぼれ、慢心」という意味だと思われます。
reappearing 「再び現れた」
in a finer form.「より洗練された形で」です。
fine は「元気、大丈夫」という意味もありますがここでは「洗練された、上品な、上質な」という意味。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
