as ～ は「～する中で、～する状況下で」という意味の接続詞。
co-host コウホウストゥで「～を共催する」です。
the competition「その競技会」とは、記事で先に出てくるサッカーのワールドカップを指しています。
competition コンペ[ティ]ションで「競技会、大会」です。
動詞形は compete コン[ピ]ートゥ「競い合う、競争する、匹敵する」です。
again in 2026, で「2026年にまた」
, along with Canada and Mexico, で「カナダとメキシコと一緒に（共同開催する）」です。
along with ～ で「～と一緒に、～と共に」という意味のコロケーション。
team USA still has some catching up to do で「アメリカチームには、いまだに、いくらかの追いつくべき課題がある」です。
team USA で「アメリカ代表チーム」
have catching up to do で「～やるべき課題がある」という意味の言い回しです。
catching-up が名詞で「追い付くこと、挽回、巻き返し、（久しぶりの再会などで）積もる話」という意味。

But ～「しかし～」
in watching the sport,「そのスポーツを観ることにおいては」です。
in ～ はここでは「～において、～の点においては」という意味になります。
the sport はサッカーのことを指しています。

the country「その国、同国」は、アメリカを指しています。

chart は「図表、グラフ」です。

soccer is their favourite sport,「サッカーは一番好きなスポーツだ（と）」です。
favourite は favorite とも綴って「大好きな、お気に入りの、一番好きな」という意味。
分詞構文で繋げて、
, making it narrowly more popular than baseball. で「（そのことは）僅差でサッカーを、野球よりも人気のスポーツにしている」です。
make の主語は直前の文全体で「そのことは～」となります。
make it more popular で「それをより人気にしている」です。
make ～ … で「～を…の状態にする」という意味の言い回し。
it はサッカーを指します。
than baseball. で「野球より（も人気に）」です。
narrowly は「僅差で～、辛うじて、ギリギリで」という意味の副詞です。
形容詞形 narrow ナロウは「狭い、紙一重の、ギリギリの」です。
