で「世界中のミレニアル世代に、自分たちのアイデンティティを形作っているものは何か、と尋ねた調査でいちばん多かった答えは、国籍でも宗教でも民族でもなく『世界市民（citizen of the world）』でした。これはすごく大きな意味があります。どの世代も、時代が進むたびに、仲間だと思える人の範囲＝“自分たち側”の輪、を少しずつ広げてきました。そして私たちの世代では、その輪が――ついに世界全体を包み込むところまで来たのです。」という意味になります。

In a survey「ある調査で」
asking millennials around the world で「世界中のミレニアル世代に～と聞いた（調査）」
what defines our identity, で「私たち世代を特徴づけるものは何か（と）」です。
identity は「アイデンティティ、自己同一性、自分が自分であること」です。
define one’s identity で「その人の存在を定義する」です。
つまり、何が自分を自分たらしめているか、ということですね。
the most popular answer wasn’t ～「最も多かった答えは～ではなかった」
nationality, religion or ethnicity,「国籍、宗教もしくは民族（ではなかった）」
it was “citizen of the world”.「それは世界市民だった」です。
That’s a big deal.「それはすごいことです。」
Every generation expands ～「どの世代も～を拡大するものだ」
the circle of people「人々の輪を」
we consider “one of us”.「自分たちの一員だとみなす（人々の輪）」です。
For us, 「われわれ世代にとって」
it now encompasses the entire world.「それは今や全世界を内包するのだ」です。
encompass ～ で「～を包み込む、包囲する、覆う、網羅する」です。
例：encompass the enemy「敵を包囲する」、encompass a broad range「広範囲を網羅する」
それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
