I'm short sighted, and I spent an hour with my nose glued to the paper trying to figure out what was written on it. It was a ophthalmology exam. FML で「今日、私はテストが始まる直前、試験室に行く途中で眼鏡を壊してしまった。私は近視なので、試験中一時間の間、テストの紙に何が書いてあるのかを理解しようとして答案用紙に顔を密着させて過ごした。それは眼科学の試験だった。F*ck my life!」という意味になります。 just before going into a test で「テストに入る直前に」という意味です。 just before ～ は「～の直前」という意味の言い回しです. go into ～ で「～に入る、～し始める、～状態に入る、～になる」という意味の句動詞です。 I broke my glasses on the way to the exam room で「試験の教室に行く途中で眼鏡を壊した」です. broke ブロウクは break「壊す」の過去形です。 glasses は「眼鏡」です。眼鏡は常に複数形の名詞です。 ガラスが左右両眼ともにあるからですね。常に複数形の名詞は、pants や scissor「ハサミ」など両揃いのものはだいたいそうです。 exam は前出の test と同じ意味で「試験、テスト」です。 examination イグザミネイションの省略形です。 I'm short sighted で「私は近視だ」です。 short sighted で「近視の、近眼の」という意味です。 逆に遠視は、far sighted といいます。 例：far sighted glasses「遠視用メガネ、老眼鏡」 and I spent an hour with ～ で「～しながら一時間過ごした、～な状態で一時間過ごした」という意味になります。 with は付帯状況の with ですね。 with + 名詞 + 状態 という意形です。 with my nose glued to the paper なので「鼻を答案用紙に密着させながら」という意味です。 glue は名詞では「のり、接着剤」という意味で、動詞では「くっつける、密着させる」という意味にもなります。 例：glued to the screen「画面にくぎ付けになる」 trying to figure out what was written on it で「それに何が書いてあるかを分かろうとして」です。 figure out は「分かる、解明する」という意味の句動詞です。こちらも頻出なのでチェックしておきましょう。 例：figure out a way to win「勝ち方を見つけ出す」、figure out how to ～「～の方法が分かる、はじき出す」 ophthalmology exam で「眼科学のテスト」ですね。 ophthalmology オフザ[モ]ロジーは「眼科、眼科学」という意味の名詞です。 発音が難しいですが、音声を確認して読めるようしておきましょう。
