creep で「ゆっくりと這う、忍び寄る」という意味の動詞。

silk case とは、自分の周りを繭のように覆う住処だそうです。

but ～「しかし～」
this takes the cake, で「これは群を抜いている」です。
take the cake は「一等賞になる、優勝する」という意味です。語源は、黒人のcakewalkコンテストの賞品としてケーキが使われたところからだそう。
またこの表現はネガティブな文脈でよく使われて「（悪い意味で）一番だ」になります。
例：That excuse really takes the cake.「あの言い訳は今までで一番ひどかった。」
