本日の例文

中国の明朝時代の鄭和（ていわ）がコロンブスより先にアメリカを発見したということを裏付ける地図が見つかったという記事です。

で「もしそれが本当なら、歴史を書き換えることになる。なぜならそれは彼が世界を一周したことを示すから。そしてもっとも世界を刺激することとしては、彼がコロンブスよりも70年以上前にアメリカ大陸を発見したことになるから。」という意味になります。

If it is real, it rewrites history, で「それが本当なら、それは歴史を塗り替える。」です。
その後の for は「～だから、なぜなら」という意味の接続詞の for です。

it shows that ～ で「～ということを示す」です。

どういうことを示すのかというと、
he circumnavigated the globe で「彼が地球を一周した」ことです。
he とは鄭和（ていわ）のこと。
circumnavigate は「周航する」という意味の動詞です。
circum- は「周り、周囲」という意味の接頭語です。
例：circumstance「周囲の事情、環境、状況」
globe は「球体、天体」という意味ですが、the が付くと「地球、世界」という意味になります。

そして、
most provocatively – that he discovered America more than 70 years before Columbus で
「もっとも挑発的なことに、彼がコロンブスよりも70年以上前にアメリカ大陸を発見したこと」となります。
provocatively は「挑発的に、人を怒らせるように」という意味の副詞です。
形容詞形は provocative で「挑発的な、刺激的な」です。
例：provocative military actions「挑発的な軍事行動」

more than 70 years before Columbus で「コロンブスより70年以上前に」という意味になります。
時間 + before ～ で「～より（時間）前に」という意味を作ります。
例：3 days before an election「選挙の3日前に」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
