で「そのウイルスの出元はエボラのように自然の伝染病かもしれないし、バイオテロかもしれません。ですから、まさに事態を1000倍も悪化させる理由はいろいろとあるのです。」という意味になります。

could はここでは可能性を表して「ひょっとして～かもしれない」です。
a natural epidemic で「自然の疫病、伝染病」です。
epidemic は「疫病、伝染病、感染症」という意味の名詞です。

or it could be bioterrorism で「または、それはバイオテロかもしれない」です。
bio- バイオゥで「生物の」という意味の接頭語です。
terrorism は「テロ」です。
生物兵器（細菌）を使ったテロということですね。

So there are things that ～ で「だから、～なことは（いろいろ）存在する」です。
例：There are things that science cannot explain.「科学では説明できないものもある。」

どんなものがあるのかという、
(that) would literally make things a thousand times worse. で「文字通り、1000倍も、事態をさらに悪化させる（ものが）」です。
make things worse で「事態を悪化せる、状況を悪くする」という意味の言い回しです。
make ～ … で「～を…（の状態）にする」という意味の言い回しです。
例：make it difficult to understand each other「互いを理解することを難しくする」
a thousand times worse で「1000倍悪く」です。
比較級の前に倍数を置いて「何倍も～」という意味になります。
例：twice larger「２倍大きい」、a hundred times faster「100倍速い」
ちなみに a thousand times「1000倍」は thousandfold とも表せます。
例：thousandfold greater「千倍大きい」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
