万有引力で有名なアイザック・ニュートンの言葉です。

I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.

で「世の中に、私がどう映っているかなんてわからないが、自分から見たら、ずっと私は海岸で遊んでいるただの少年のようだったと思う。ときどき普通よりつるつるした小石や、かわいい貝を見つけたりして楽しんでいる少年だ。目の前には未だ誰も解明していない大きな真実の海が広がっている中で。」という意味になります。

I do not know ～ で「私には～は全くわからない」です。
what I may appear to the world で「私が世界にどう見えるか」です。
appear は「～に見える」という意味の動詞です。
例：I’m not as social as I appear to be.「私は見た目ほど社交的ではありません。」

but to myself で「でも、私には」
I seem to have been only like a boy で「私は～のようだ、ただ少年のようだった」です。
seem も appear と同様「～のようだ、～のように思える」という意味の動詞です。
look と seem と appear の違い

have been like a boy で「（今までずっと）少年のようだった」です。
どんな少年かというと、
a boy playing on the seashore で「海岸で遊んでいる少年」です。
seashore で「海岸」です。sea「海」＋ shore「沿岸、岸」です。
and diverting myself in ～ で「そして、～で気を紛らわせている、～を楽しむ」です。
divert は元は「～をそらす」という意味ですが「（人）～の気を紛らす」という意味から、
「～を楽しませる」という意味になります。
例：diverting incident「面白い出来事」

now and then は挿入的に「時々」という意味の副詞句になります。

(divert oneself in) finding a smoother pebble で「いつもよりツルツルした小石を探して（楽しむ）」です。
or a prettier shell than ordinary で「または、いつもよりかわいい貝を（探して）」となります。
than ordinary で「いつもより、普段より、通常より」という意味になります。
例：ordinary people「庶民、一般の人々」

whilst ～ は while ～ と同じ意味です。
the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me で「大きな真実の海が広がった、全く解明されていない状態で、私の目の前に」です。
the great ocean of truth が主語で「大きな真実の海」です。
自然哲学者、数学者、物理学者であるニュートンにとっての「自分の周りの世界」という事ですね。
lay はここでは lie の過去形になります。
lie と lay は、非常にややこしいですが、
●lie ライ「～が横たわる、置かれている」　変化形：lie lay lain
●lay レイ「～を横たえる」　変化形：lay laid laid
となります。

all undiscovered で「全く解明されていない状態で、未知のままで」です。
before me「私の眼前に」となります。
before は「（時間的な）前に」だけではなく「（空間的な）前に」という意味でも使えます。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

私にはわからない

私が世界にどう見えているかは

but to myself
でも私にとっては

I seem to have been
私はずっと～だったようだ

only like a boy
ただ少年のようだった
