Happiness never decreases by being shared. で「蝋燭一本で千本の蝋燭に火を灯せるが、それで（その一本の）蝋燭の寿命が短くなることはない。（同様に）幸せも分かち合うことで減ることはない。」という意味になります。 Thousands of candles で「何千本もの蝋燭」という意味になります。 be lighted from ～ で「～から火を得る、～から火を灯す」ですね。 light は「光」という意味ですが、「ともしび」という意味合いがあります。 火の光、日の光という意味ですね。 ですので、動詞では「火をつける」という意味になります。 shorten は「短くする」という意味の動詞です。 形容詞形は short「短い」ですね。 例：shorten one's own life「寿命を縮める」 Happiness never decreases で「幸せは決して減らない」です。 decrease ディクリースは「減る、減少する、低下する」という意味の動詞です。 例：decreasing demand「需要の減少」 今回の文で注目なのが、and です。 and は「そして、だから」という【順接】の意味でおなじみですが、 今回の様に「だけれども」という but に近い使われ方をする時があります。 「そして」というよりも、「それで、そのことで」という「前節を受ける」意味合いで訳していくとピンとくると思います。
