I was happy to let go the fact he answered his phone at the table, because it was his mother. Respect for your elders and all that. However, I knew it was definitely time to cut the date short when, in my presence, he said “yes mother, I’ve washed me knob”.
で「彼が食事中に電話に出たことについては、相手が彼の母親だったので大目に見ることにした。年長者は敬うものだし、そのへんはまあ仕方ない。でも、私が目の前にいるのに、彼が『うん、母さん。ちゃんとチンコ洗ったよ』と言った瞬間、これはもう間違いなくデートを早めに切り上げるべきだと思った。」という意味になります。
I was happy to do ～ で「私は喜んで～する、～することは気にならない」です。
(to) let go the fact (that) ～「～という事実を見過ごすこと」
let go (of) ～ で「～を手放す、～を気にしない、～を水に流す」です。
例：You need to let go of the past.「過去のことは忘れなければならない。」
(that) he answered his phone at the table, で「彼が食事中に電話に出た（こと）」です。
answer one’s phone で「電話に出る」です。
take a call とも言えます。
, because it was his mother.「それが彼の母親だったから」
Respect for your elders「年長者への敬意」
and all that. は「～などなど、～とかいろいろ、まあそういうやつ」という意味のくだけた言い回し。
and all that jazz という言い方もありますね。
However,「しかしながら～」
I knew (that) ～「～だと確信した」
it was definitely time to cut the date short 「間違いなくデートを早めに切り上げる時だ（と）」
it is time to do ～ で「～する時だ」です。
cut ～ short は「～を途中で切り上げる、早めに終える」です。
when ～「～した時」
, in my presence,「私がいるところで、私の目の前で」です。
presence は「存在すること、目の前にいること」という意味の名詞です。
he said ～「彼が～と言った（時）」
“yes mother, I’ve washed me knob”.「うんママ、チンコは洗ったよ。」です。
knob はイギリス英語で「男性器、チンコ」という意味の俗語。
アメリカだったら dick や cock ですね。
また正しくは、washed my knob ですが、washed me knob になっています。
これは、特にイングランドの一部の話し言葉で、my が弱く発音されて me のようになることがあります。
文字にすると、話者の訛りや庶民的な話し方を再現するために me と書かれることがあります。
なので、文法的に目的格の me を使っているわけではなく、my の方言的・口語的な形ですね。
それはまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
