hit the nail on the head の意味です。

I think Mick hit the nail on the head when he said that what’s lacking in this company is a feeling of confidence.
で「ミックが、この会社に欠けているものは信頼感だ、と言ったとき、私は彼が実に的を得たことを言ったと思った。」という意味になります。

hit the nail on the head は「頭の上で爪を叩く」ではありません！

nail は「爪」でおなじみですが、「釘」という意味もあります。
hit the nail で「釘を打つ」という意味です。
そして on the head は「頭の上で」ではなく、「釘の頭の部分を（打つ）」という意味です。
なので「釘の頭の部分を打つ」で「小さな的をねらってうまく打つ」という意味合いになります。
上の文のように「的を得たことを言う、要点をつく」という意味でつかわれます。

先日でてきた、shove ～ in the face「～の顔を押しのける」のように、英語では、行為の作用する部分を後から説明する表現がよく出ます。
例：
hit the nail on the head「釘の頭の部分を打つ」
grab someone by the hand「～の手をつかむ」
shoot someone in the chest「～の胸を銃で撃つ」

what’s lacking in this company で「この会社で欠けているもの」という意味になります。
lack は「欠けている、不足している」という意味の動詞です。
また名詞では「欠如、不足」という意味になります。
例：lack a feeling of happiness「幸福感がない」、lack of a sense of morality「倫理観の欠如」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
