like doing ～ で「～するのが好き」という言い回しですね。

I don’t plan to spend the rest of my life here は「残りの人生をここで過ごす計画はない」です。
一生ここに住む決心をしているわけではないということですね。
plan to ～ で「～する計画である、～するつもりだ」という意味。
rest of my life で「残りの人生、余生」ですね。

but there are several distinct advantages to living in Japan で「しかし日本に住むことにはいくつかの明らかな利点がある」です。
distinct は「明らかな、はっきりと見える、目立つ」という意味の形容詞です。
例：distinct defect「明らかな不良」、distinct feature「目立った特徴」
advantage to ～ で「～の利点、～の強み、～の良さ」です。

as opposed to somewhere else は「他のどこかとは対照的に」です。
as opposed to ～ は「～とは対照的に、～ではなく、～に対して」という意味の言い回しです。
例：logically as opposed to emotionally「感情的ではなく論理的に」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
