It is understanding that gives us an ability to have peace. When we understand the other fellow’s viewpoint, and he understands ours, then we can sit down and work out our differences.

It is understanding that gives us an ability to have peace. When we understand the other fellow’s viewpoint, and he understands ours, then we can sit down and work out our differences.
で「我々に平和を保つ力を与えるのは理解力である。相手の視点を理解すれば、相手もまた私たちの視点を理解する。そうすれば私たちは腰を据えてお互いの違いに折り合いをつけることができる。」という意味になります。

It is understanding that ～ で「～は理解力だ」となります。
understanding はこの場合は名詞で「理解力」という意味となります。

何が「理解力」なのかというと、
gives us an ability to have peace で「我々に平和を保つ能力を与える」のが理解力だということです。

ability to ～ で「～する能力、～する力」です。

When we understand the other fellow’s viewpoint, and he understands ours, で「我々が相手の視点を理解すれば、相手も私たちの視点を理解する」です。
今回の when は if に近い意味合いで「～ならば、～すれば」という意味になります。
the other fellow’s viewpoint で「他のやつの視点」です。
fellow はちょっと古めかしい表現で「やつ」という意味で、男友達に対しての呼称です。
「同輩、同士、仲間」という意味合いが含まれます。
例：good fellow「いいやつ」、visiting research fellow「客員研究員」、fellowship「友情、仲間同士」
and he understands ours で「そうすれば相手も私たちの視点を理解する」です。
ours は our viewpoints を意味する所有代名詞（possessive pronoun）ですね。

then we can sit down and work out our differences. で「そうしたら私たちは腰を据えて違いに折り合いをつけていける」です。
sit down and ～ は「腰を据えて～する」という意味の慣用句です。
例：sit down and talk about ～「じっくりと～について話し合う」
work out differences で「折り合いをつける、違いに取り組む」という意味です。
work out ～ は「～を苦労して解く、解決する」という意味の句動詞です。
例：We’ll work it out.「どうにかなるよ。」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
