で「とは言え、現代の舞台監督によって演出され、その多くはシンプルなセットと現代的な衣装を着た俳優を使う劇ではあるが、木下歌舞伎の作品は常に歌舞伎という舞踏劇の本質とそのストーリーには忠実である。」という意味になります。

Yet, は「とは言え、けれども」という意味の接続詞です。

despite ～ は「～ではあるが、～をよそに」という意味です。
despite its plays being staged by contemporary theater directors で「その劇は近代の舞台監督に演出されてはいるが」です。
its plays が「その劇、その舞台」です。「木下歌舞伎の劇」ですね。
play は「劇、演劇、舞台」という意味になります。
be staged by ～ で「～によって演出される」です。
stage は動詞では「～を演出する」となります。

上に続いて
often with simple sets and actors in modern clothes, で「多くの場合、シンプルな舞台セットと今風の衣装を着た俳優たちを使い」です。
with simple sets で「シンプルな（舞台）セットで」です。
with actors in modern clothes で「現代的な衣装を着た俳優で」です。
記事の写真を見ると確かに歌舞伎なのに俳優たちはスーツ姿ですね。

Kinoshita-Kabuki’s works are invariably faithful to で「（～ではあるが）木下歌舞伎の作品は～にはいつでも忠実である」です。
invariably インヴァリアブリィは「変わらずに、いつでも、常に」という意味の副詞です。
簡単に always とも言えます。
例：The restaurant is invariably crowded.「その店はいつでも混んでいる」

何に忠実（faithful）かというと
(faithful to) the essence of the dance-dramas and their stories. で「その舞踏劇の本質とそのストーリー（に忠実）」です。
the essence of the dance-dramas で「その舞踏劇の本質」です。
ここでの the dance-dramas は「歌舞伎」のことを指しています。
their stories は「それらのストーリー」です。
この their も「歌舞伎の」という意味になります。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
