ミッチ・アルボム氏は元は新聞のスポーツコラムニストでしたが、その後ベストセラーの書籍『モリー先生との火曜日』を出版します。

インタビュアーに、
How does being a newspaperman influence the simple sentences of your writing voice?
と質問されての返答になります。

In a newspaper, you only have so much room. で「新聞では、スペースが限られている」です。
only have so much room で「限られたスペースしかない」という意味になります。
only so much ～ で「限られた量の～」という意味です。
so much には「とてもたくさんの」という意味もありますが、
この場合の so much は「その程度の～」という意味合いです。

例：There’s only so much we can do.「私たちにできることは限りがある。」
room はこの場合は「空間的な余地、余裕、スペース」という意味です。

It teaches you the value of getting to the point, で「そのことは、価値を教えてくれる、要点を付くことの価値を」です。
it とは「新聞ではスペースが限られている」ことを指しています。
get to the point で「ズバリ要点を言う、核心を突く」という意味の慣用句になります。
例：Let me get right to the point.「では早速要点に入ります。」

(the value) of not pampering yourself with your glorious writing. で「自分を好き勝手甘やかさないことの（重要性）、自分の壮麗な文体で」です。
pamper oneself は「自分を甘やかす、好き勝手やる」という意味です。
with your glorious writing で「自分の壮麗な書き方で」です。
要するに、新聞では自己満的な回りくどい文章は必要なく、分かりやすく要点を書くことが大事だという事です。

(that) stays with you で「あなたと一緒にいる（一文）」ですが、これは「ずっと残り続ける」という意味合いです。
例：the moment that stays with me forever「私の記憶に永遠に残る瞬間」
