What makes us exceptional — what makes us American — is our allegiance to an idea articulated in a declaration made more than two centuries ago:“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

で「我々を特別な存在にしているもの、我々をアメリカ人にしているものは、200年以上も前になされた宣言の中で明確に述べられたある考えへの我々の忠誠心です。その考えとはこうです。『我々はこれらの事実を自明のものと考える。すべての人間は平等に創られているということ、それらの人間は創造主によって誰にも奪えない一定の権利が与えられていること。これらの権利の中には、生命、自由、幸福の追求が含まれること。』」という意味になります。

What makes us exceptional — what makes us American — が主語です。
What makes us exceptional で「私たちを特別にしているもの」という意味です。
make ～ … で「～を…の状態にする」という意味。
us「私達」を exceptional「特別な」に make「している」です。
exceptional は「例外的な」という意味もありますがここでは「（例外的に）素晴らしい、格別の」という意味です。
what makes us American で「私たちをアメリカ人にしているもの」です。

格別なアメリカ人にしているものは、
is our allegiance to an idea で「私たちの忠誠だ、ある考えへの（忠誠）」です。
allegiance アリージャンスで「忠誠」です。
どんな考え（an idea）かというと、
(an idea) articulated in a declaration で「ある宣言の中ではっきり述べられた（考え）」です。
articulate アーティキュレイトゥは「はっきり発音する」という意味もありますが、ここでは「明確に述べる」という意味です。
名詞形は articulation「明瞭な発音、明確な表現、メリハリ良く演奏すること」
どんな宣言の中で述べられたのかといういうと、
(a declaration) made more than two centuries ago で「2世紀以上も前になされた宣言」です。
make a declaration で「宣言をする」という意味のコロケーションです。
more than two centuries ago で「2世紀以上前に」です。

:（コロン）で「それはつまり～（こういうことだ）」

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, で「我々はこれらの真実を自明のことと考える」です。
hold は「～を持つ」ですが、ここでは hold ～ to be … で「～を…であると考える、みなす」という意味です。
self-evident は「自明の、分かり切った」です。直訳すると「自分自身が証明している」です。

these truths の具体例を ;（セミコロン）で列挙する形です。
, (that) all men are created equal; で「すべての人間は平等に創られている（という真実）」
この that は「～という」という意味の同格の that で、these truths「これらの真実」の内容を表しています。
そして、
(that) they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; で「彼らは創造主により与えられてる（という真実）、一定の不可分の権利を」です。
they は all men を指しています。
endow ～ with … で「～に…を授ける」という意味のコロケーションです。
endow エン[ダ]ウで「～に与える、授ける」という意味の動詞。
名詞形は endowment エンダウメントゥ「（基金などの）寄贈、寄付金、天賦の才能」です。
Creator は「創造主」つまり「神」です。
certain unalienable rights で「一定の奪えない権利」です。
unalienable ア[ネ]イリェネボォで「奪い取れない、不可分の、譲渡できない」という意味の形容詞です。
inalienable イ[ネ]イリエネボォでも同じ意味です。
そして最後に、
(that) among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” で「これらの権利の中には、生きること、自由、そして幸せの追求という権利が含まれている（という真実）」です。
among these are ～ で「これらの中には～がある」という意味の言い回しです。
例：Among the victims are many foreigners.「それらの被害者の中には多くの外国人も含まれている。」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

我々を特別たらしめているもの

what makes us American —
我々をアメリカ人たらしめているもの

is our allegiance to an idea
は、ある考えへの我々の忠誠心である

articulated in a declaration
ある宣言の中で明確に述べられた（考え）

made more than two centuries ago:
２世紀以上前になされた（宣言の中で）

我々はこれらの真実を自明のものと考える

全ての人間が平等に創られている（ということ）
