で「4月にハワイを通り過ぎたそのヨットは、船上の電力需要にはソーラーパネルを利用し、堀江氏は衛星電話を使ってスタッフや地上の人たちと話をした。その航海は、60年前に無寄港で今回とは逆ルートで太平洋を横断し初のヨットマンとなった時に堀江氏が作ったルートと同じようなルートを辿った。」という意味になります。

The sailboat, which passed by Hawaii in April, が主語になります。
そのヨット（4月にハワイのそばを通り過ぎた）です。

utilized solar panels で「ソーラーパネルを活用した」
for electricity needs on board,「船上の電力需要のために」です。
electricity needs で「電気の需要」です。
on board の board は「（船の）甲板」を指しています。これの表現は飛行機にも使われます。
また動詞として使えば「乗船する、飛行機に搭乗する」という意味にもなります。

and Horie used a satellite phone で「また、堀江氏は衛星電話を使った」です。
to speak with his staff「彼のスタッフたちと話すために」です。
staff は集合名詞なのでスタッフが複数人いる場合も、基本的には -s は付けません。

and others on the ground で「と、地上の他の人達と」です。

The voyage traced a similar route で「今回の公開は～を辿った、同様のルートを」です。
a similar route to the one he made 60 years ago で「同様のルート、彼が60年前に作ったルートと」です。
similar to ～ で「～に似ている、～と同じような」という意味のコロケーションです。
the one は反復を避けるために、route を one で言い替えたもの。
the one (that) he made で「彼が作ったルート」です。

(60 years ago) when he became the first yachtsman (to do ～) で「（その60年前とは）彼が～した初めてのヨットマンになった時」です。
何を初めてやったかというと、
to cross the Pacific alone with no port calls で「太平洋を横断した、ひとりで、無寄港で」です。
cross the Pacific で「太平洋を横断する」です。
the Pacific はthe Pacific Ocean のことです。ちなにに「大西洋」は、the Atlantic Ocean です。
port call は「寄港、入港」という意味になります。
but in reverse. は「でも、（今回とは）逆ルートで」という意味です。
つまり、60年前は日本からアメリカへ、今回はアメリカから日本へ、の航海だったわけです。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
