For the American people can no more meet the demands of today’s world by acting alone than American soldiers could have met the forces of fascism or communism with muskets and militias.

で「しかし我々は常に理解してきた。時代が変わる時、我々もまた変わらねばならないということを。建国理念への忠誠も、新たな課題に対しては新しい対応を求められるということを。個人の自由を守るためには、最終的に集団行動が必要となることを。なぜなら、我々アメリカ人のみの単独行動では今日の世界からの要求に十分に応えることができないからだ。かつてのアメリカの兵士たちもファシズムや共産主義の勢力にマスケット銃や市民兵ではきっと対抗できなかったのと同じように。」という意味になります。

But we have always understood (that) ～ で「だが、我々は常に～だということを理解してきた」です。
when times change, so must we で「時代が変わる時、我々も同じく変わらねばならない（ということを）」です。
so must we は省略表現で、we must change too と同じ意味です。
例：“I like sushi.” “So do I.”「寿司が好きです。」「私もです。」

;（セミコロン）で、that節（～ということ）が列挙される形です。
(that) fidelity to our founding principles requires new responses to new challenges で「また、建国の理念への忠誠は、～を必要としている、新しい対応を、新しい課題に対して」です。
fidelity to our founding principles が主語で「我が国の建国の理念への忠誠心」です。
fidelity フィ[デ]リティで「忠誠、忠誠心、貞節」という意味の名詞です。
founding ファウンディングは「建国の、礎の、創立の」という意味です。
動詞形は found で「基礎を築く、創設する」です。
requires new responses で「新しい対応を求められる」です。
(responses) to new challenges で「新しい課題に対しては」

さらに ;（セミコロン）が続いて、
(that) preserving our individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action. で「我々の個人の自由を保護することは、最終的には、集団行動が必要である」です。
preserving our individual freedoms が主語で「個人の自由を保護すること」です。
preserve プリザーヴは「～を保護する、～を守る、～を保全する」です。
ultimately は「最終的には、結局は、突き詰めていけば」という意味の副詞です。
ultimately requires collective action で「結局は集団行動が必要だ」となります。

For ～ は「なぜなら～だから、というのも～」という意味の理由を表す接続詞です。
全部で7個ある等位接続詞の一つです。
for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so（FANBOYS）
これらの等位接続詞を文頭で使うことには議論があって、基本的には使ってはいけないことになっている（いた）ようですが、最近ではあまり気にせずに使われる場合が多いようです。

the American people can no more meet the demands of today’s world by acting alone で「アメリカ人は今日の世界の要求に応えられない、単独行動では」です。
no more がでてきました。これは有名なクジラ構文です。
no more ～ than … で「…ではないのと同じくらいに～ではない」という意味になります。
例：A whale is no more a fish than a horse is.「馬が魚ではないのと同じように、クジラも魚ではない。」
no more がでてきたら頭の中で「同じくらい（～でない）」と思い浮かべるようにしておくのがコツですね。
can not meet the demands of today’s world by acting alone で「今日の世界の要求に応えることができない、単独で行動することによっては」です。
meet demands「要求に応える、需要を満たす」という意味のコロケーションです。

何と同じくらい「できない（can no more ～）」のかというと、
than ～ で「～できないのと同じくらい」です。
(than) American soldiers could have met ～ で「アメリカの兵士たちが～に対応でき（なかったのと同じくらい）」ということになります。
could have ～ と仮定表現が使われています。「（もし～だったら）～できなかっただろう」という意味合いになっています。
何に対応できなかったかもしれないかというと、
the forces of fascism or communism with muskets and militias. で「ファシズムと共産主義の勢力に（対応できなかったかも）、マスケット銃と市民兵では」です。
the force of ～ で「～の勢力、～の軍勢」です。
musket で「マスケット銃」、militia で「市民兵、民兵組織」です。
どちらも「時代遅れの兵隊」のイメージを表現しています。
militia マ[リ]シャ「民兵」とは、
常備軍が一般に常時兵営に起居して、一定年数にわたって軍事訓練に専念するのに対し、定期的に短期間の訓練は受けはするが、平時には家にあって職につき、緊急時には動員されて、主として地域防衛の任にあたる市民の軍事組織を民兵とよぶ。
ということです。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

しかし我々は常に～だと理解してきた

that
～ということを

when times change, so must we;
時代が変わる時は、我々も変わらなければならない（ことを）

that
（また）～ということを

fidelity to our founding principles
建国の理念への忠誠は

requires new responses
