本日の例文

TED-Edより「Can you solve the prisoner hat riddle?（囚人の帽子クイズに挑戦）」です。

Prisoner three sees an even number of black hats, so he knows that his must be one of the black hats the first two prisoners saw. Prisoner four hears that and knows that she should be looking for an even number of black hats since one was behind her. But she only sees one, so she deduces that her hat is also black.

Prisoner three sees an even number of black hats, so he knows that his must be one of the black hats the first two prisoners saw. Prisoner four hears that and knows that she should be looking for an even number of black hats since one was behind her. But she only sees one, so she deduces that her hat is also black.
で「囚人３には偶数個の黒い帽子が見えます。ですので自分の帽子が最初の二人が見た黒い帽子の一つであるとわかります。囚人４はそれを聞いて自分も偶数個の黒い帽子を探すべきだと思います。一つは自分の後ろにあったので。でも彼女には一個の黒い帽子しか見えません。それで自分のも黒だと推定します。」という意味になります。

Prisoner three sees ～ で「囚人３は、～を見る」です。
see は「～を見る、～が見える、～が目に入る」という意味です。
an even number of black hats, で「偶数個の黒い帽子が」です。
a ～ number of … で「～個の…」という言い回し。
even number は「偶数」です。odd number で「奇数」です。

so ～「だから、なので～」
he knows that ～ で「彼は～だと知る、～だと確信する」
囚人３は男性だという設定ですね。
何を確信するかというと、
(that) his must be one of the black hats で「自分の帽子が、～に違いないと、それらの黒い帽子の内の一つだと」です。
his は he の所有代名詞（possessive pronoun）なので「彼のもの」という意味になります。
ここでは his hat と同じ意味です。
前回の hers「彼女の帽子」と同じですね。
the black hats「それらの黒い帽子」とは何だったかというと、
(that) the first two prisoners saw. で「最初の2人の囚人たちが見た（それらの黒い帽子）」です。

Prisoner four hears that で「囚人４はそれを聞く」
and knows (that) ～ で「そして～だと思う」です。
she should be looking for ～ で「自分が～を探しているべきだと」です。
she なので囚人４は女性ですね。
should be ～ing は「（今すでに）～しているべきだ」ですので、つまり「～しなければ」と言った意味合いです。
例：I should be going.「もう行かなくちゃ。」
何を探す（look for ～）のかというと、
an even number of black hats で「偶数個の黒い帽子」です。
since one was behind her. で「なぜなら一つが彼女の後ろにあったから」です。
ここでは since ～ は理由の意味の接続詞です。

But「しかし」
she only sees one,「彼女に見えるのは1つだけです」です。
so ～「ですので～」
she deduces that ～ で「彼女（囚人４）は～だと推測する」
(that) her hat is also black. で「彼女の帽子も同じく黒だ（と）」です。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

Prisoner three sees
囚人３には～が見えます

an even number of black hats,
偶数個の黒い帽子が

so he knows that
なので彼は～だと確信します

his must be one of the black hats
自分の帽子は間違いなく黒い帽子のうちの一つだと

the first two prisoners saw.
最初の２人の囚人たちが見た（黒い帽子）

Prisoner four hears that
囚人４はそれを聞いて

and knows that
～だと思います

she should be looking for
自分は～を探さなければと

an even number of black hats
偶数個の黒い帽子を

since one was behind her.
なぜなら一つは自分の後ろにあったので

But she only sees one,
でも彼女には一つの黒い帽子しか見えません

so she deduces that
なので～だと推測します

her hat is also black.
自分の帽子も黒だと

今度は「頭の中で」一行ずつ日本語に訳しながら…
