J.K. Rowling のハーバード大学の卒業式でのスピーチ（2008年）です。

What I feared most for myself at your age was not poverty, but failure. At your age, in spite of a distinct lack of motivation at university, where I had spent far too long in the coffee bar writing stories, and far too little time at lectures, I had a knack for passing examinations, and that, for years, had been the measure of success in my life and that of my peers.

At your age, in spite of a distinct lack of motivation at university, where I had spent far too long in the coffee bar writing stories, and far too little time at lectures, I had a knack for passing examinations, and that, for years, had been the measure of success in my life and that of my peers.
で「皆さんくらいの年齢の時、自分のことで一番の心配の種だったのは、『貧乏になる』ということではなく、『失敗する』ことでした。そのころの私は、大学での明らかなやる気のなさにもかかわらず（喫茶店で物語を書いてばかりで、ほとんど授業には出ていませんでした）、試験にパスする要領の良さを持っていました。そして私の人生においてそれが成功の尺度であり、同僚たちにとってもそうでした。」という意味になります。

What I feared most for myself at your age までが主語で「私が最も心配だったこと、自分のことで、みなさんの年頃に」です。
What I feared most で「私が一番怖かったこと、一番不安だったこと」です。
was not poverty, but failure. で「貧困ではなく、失敗だった」です。
not ～ but …「～ではなく…だ」の構文です。
failure [フェ]イ・リャーは「失敗、落第」です。

At your age,
in spite of ～「～も関わらず」
a distinct lack of motivation at university, で「明らかなモチベーションの欠如、大学での」です。
distinct は「はっきりと見える、すぐに知覚できる」という意味の形容詞です。
例：distinct feeling「はっきりとした感覚」
, where ～ の関係副詞句は、カンマで区切って「そこでは～」と、挿入的に university を説明しています。
(where) I had spent far too long in the coffee bar writing stories, で「（その大学では）あまりにも長い時間を過ごしていた、喫茶店で、物語を書きながら」です。
, and ～「そして」
(spent) far too little time at lectures, で「あまりにも少ない時間を授業で（過ごしていた）」です。
それにもかかわらず（in spite of ～）、
I had a knack for passing examinations, で「私には試験をパスする要領の良さがあった」です。
have a knack for ～ で「～のコツを得ている」です。
, and ～「そして～」
that「それは」
, for years,「長い間、長年」
had been the measure of success で「成功の評価軸であり続けた」です。
in my life「私の人生において」
and that of my peers. で「そして私の同僚たち（にとっても）それ（だった）」
