で「この話題はもっと注目されていいはずだと彼女たちは言う。カトリック教会のシスターや修道女たちによる性的児童虐待は、より頻繁に起こる男性聖職者たちの虐待報告の陰になって目立たないでいた。修道会の女性たちは虐待の被害者であると同時に、加害者でもあった。」という意味になります。

The topic deserves more attention, で「その話題はもっと注目に値する」です。
the topic「そのトピック」とは修道女たちの性的虐待の話題のことです。
deserve ～ で「～に値する、～の価値がある、～にふさわしい」という意味の動詞。
例：deserve a lot of credit「多くの称賛を受けるにふさわしい」
attention は「注意・関心」です。
they say. 「～と彼女たちは言う」

The sexual abuse of children by Catholic sisters and nuns までが主語で「子供たちへの性的虐待、カトリックのシスターや修道女による」です。
sexual abuse of children で「子供たちへの性的虐待」となります。
この場合の of は少し注意が必要です。目的格の of ～ で後ろに「行為の対象」が来ます。
例：the murder of his uncle「彼の叔父が殺された件」、shooting of the Prime Minister「総理への銃撃」
by Catholic sisters and nuns で「カトリックのシスターと修道女たちによる」
Catholic は「カトリック教会」
sister と nun は同じような意味ですが、nun は修道院の中で俗世間から離れて禁欲生活している人です。
has been overshadowed by ～ で「～によって影に隠されてきた」です。
overshadow ～ で「～を陰に隠す、日を当たらなくする」です。
by far more common reports of ～ で「より頻繁に起こりがちな～の報告によって」
common は「よく起こる、ありふれた、日常的な」です。
far more の far は比較級を強める副詞で「さらに～、ずっと～」という意味です。
(reports of) male clergy abuse. で「男性聖職者の虐待（の報告）」です。
clergy ク[ラ]ージーで「聖職者」です。

Women in religious orders で「修道会の中の女性たち」です。
religious order で「（キリスト教の）修道会」という意味になります。
religious は「宗教の」、order はここでは「教団、聖職」という意味になります。
例：aim of an order「教団の目指していること」
have also been abuse victims で「～は虐待の被害者でもあった」
– but「しかし～」
they have been perpetrators too. で「彼女たちはまた加害者でもあった」です。
perpetrator [パ]ーペトゥレイターで「犯人、加害者」という意味の名詞です。
