The unique stone は記事中で述べられているストーンヘンジの中央にある Altar Stone「祭壇石」のことを指しています。
lying flat は lie flat「横たわる、寝そべる」の現在分詞形です。
lie「横になる」と lay「横たえる」の活用形は非常に混同しやすいので注意しましょう。
