But people will not easily forgive the mistakes of the heart, the ill intention, the bad motives, the prideful justifying cover-up of the first mistake.

で「間違いを犯すことと、それを認めないこととは、まったく別のことです。人は間違いそのものなら許してくれるでしょう。なぜなら、間違いというのはたいてい、考え違いや判断の誤りだからです。しかし人は、心の過ち――悪意や不純な動機、そして最初の間違いを隠そうとして、プライドから正当化を重ねること――は、そう簡単には許してくれません。」という意味になります。
It is one thing to make a mistake, and quite another thing not to admit it. で「間違いを犯すことと、それを認めないこととは、まったく別のことだ。」です。
～ is one thing, and … is another thing で「～と…は別のことだ」という意味の言い回しです。
例：To know is one thing; to do is quite another.「知っていることと実際にやることは全く異なる。」
to make a mistake「間違いを犯すこと」と、
not to admit it「それを認めないこと」が、quite another thing「全く別の事」
People will forgive mistakes,「人は間違いを許すだろう。」
because ～「なぜなら～」
mistakes are usually of the mind,「間違いは、たいていは、考え方の間違い（だから）」
mistakes of judgment.「判断の間違い（だから）」
the mind は「考え、思考、頭脳」という意味です。頭・知性・判断の領域に属するものです。
対して the heart は「心、感情」です。
But ～「しかし～」
people will not easily forgive ～「人は～を簡単には許さないだろう。」
the mistakes of the heart,「心の間違いを」
, the ill intention,「悪意を」
the bad motives,「悪い動機、よこしまな動機を」
the prideful justifying cover-up of the first mistake.「最初の間違いを正当化するような高慢な隠蔽を」です。
prideful「高慢な、横柄な」
justifying cover-up で「正当化するような隠蔽」です。
cover-up は「（罪・悪事・事実・本心などの）隠蔽、もみ消し」
それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
