井上ひさしの戯曲「天保12年のシェイクスピア」についての記事です。
日生劇場で2020年2月8日（土）～2月29日（土）上演とのことです。

Set in the underworld of 1841 Japan で「1841年の日本の裏社会に舞台が設定され」です。
be set in ～ で「（物語などが）～を舞台にして」という意味の言い回しです。
1841年は江戸時代の天保ですね。

and featuring characters and fragments from all of William Shakespeare’s 37 plays, で「また、～を特徴にして、登場人物や場面を、シェイクスピアの37作品の全てからの」です。
feature フィーチャーは「～を主役にする、呼び物にする、特徴とする」という意味の動詞です。
「（作品などが）～を前面に押し出す」という意味合いです。
characters and fragments from ～ で「～からの登場人物と場面」です。
character は「登場人物、役柄、キャラ」ですね。
fragment は「（壊れたものの）破片、かけら」という意味の名詞です。
この場合は、作品の中の「一部分、一場面、部分的なセリフ」という意味合いです。
例：break into fragments「粉々に砕ける」、fragments of conversation「きれぎれの会話」

the production premiered in Tokyo in 1974 で「その作品は初演された、東京で、1974年に」です。
the production はこの「天保12年のシェイクスピア」のことですね。
premiere プレ[ミ]アで「初演する、初めて上演される」という意味の動詞です。

as a keenly anticipated confection of ～ で「熱烈に期待された～を盛り込んだ作品として」です。
keenly anticipated で「熱心に期待された」という意味になります。
keen は「急激な、感覚が鋭い、熱心な、強烈な」という意味合いの形容詞になります。
anticipated は「楽しみにされた」という意味の形容詞ですね。
confection は「砂糖菓子」という意味でもおなじみですが、
この場合は「調合されたもの、盛り合わせ」という意味で使われています。

何を調合したものかというと、
yakuza thrills and で「ヤクザ物のスリルと」です。
thrill は「ドキドキ感」という意味です。
そして、
spot-the-Bard challenges for those in the know. で「『シェイクスピアを探せ！』的なクイズ、シェイクスピアマニアに向けての」という意味です。
spot-the-Bard challenges は「シェイクスピアを探せチャレンジ」となります。
the Bard はシェイクスピアの別名としておなじみの呼び名。
bard は「吟遊詩人」という意味ですね。
ですので spot the Bard は「シェイクスピアを探せ！」という意味になるわけです。
in the know は「内情に通じた」という意味の言い回しなので、
those in the know で「通の人、情報通の人達」となります。
those は「～な人々（those people）」という意味でよく使われる表現です。
