で「すばらしい。ありました。私が今まさに話している『隔たり』がそこには存在します。自身の作品の結果から作家を守ってくれるあの心理的な構造体です。そして、その当時、誰もが、そういうものだと信じていたのです。」という意味になります。

So brilliant — there it is, right there, で「実に素晴らしい。ありました、まさにそこに。」です。
there it is. は何か探している物を見つけた時の言い回しで「ありました、そこにあるよ」です。
または「それ見たことか、言ったとおりだろ」という意味でも使われます。
特定の個人に才能があるのではなく、ジーニアスやダイモンなどの精霊が個人に才能を与えるという古代ローマ人やギリシャ人の考え方のことですね。

that distance that I’m talking about で「あの距離が、私が今まさに話している（距離が）」です。
that distance とは「あの距離、例の距離」です。

that psychological construct で「あの心理的な構造体」です。
to protect you from the results of your work で「あなたの作品の結果から、あなたを守るための」です。
protect ～ from … で「…から～を保護する」です。
the results of your work で「あなたの作品の結果」です。
作品がどう評価されるか、成功するかどうか、ですね。

And everyone knew that this is how it functioned で「そして、誰もが確信していた、こうやって機能するものだと」です。
この場合の know は「知っている」という意味よりも「間違いないと確信している、きっと～だと思う」という意味合いです。
例：I knew it.「やっぱりね、だから言わんこっちゃない」
何を分かっていたかというと、
(that) this is how it functioned, で「そういうものだと、そうやって回っているものだと」です。
this is how ～ で「～はそういうものだ、～なのが普通だ」という意味の慣用句です。
例：This is how it is.「そういうものさ」
function はこの場合は動詞で「機能する、働く、動作する」です。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

実に素晴らしい

ありました、まさにそこに

私がい言っていたあの距離が

that psychological construct
あの心理的な構造体が
