で「それがそれ以上広まらなかった理由は三つあります。ひとつには、医療従事者たちの英雄的な働きがあったことです。彼らは感染者を見つけ、その感染がさらに広まることを防ぎました。」という意味になります。

There’s three reasons why it didn’t spread more. で「三つの理由がある、それがさらに広まらなかった（理由が）」です。
ここで、複数なのに there’s ～ となっている理由ですが、
there’re は発音のしにくさのためあまり普及していないそうで、代わりに複数・単数に関係なく there’s が使われることが一般的とのことです。

The first is that ～「一つ目は～ということです」

(that) there was a lot of heroic work by the health workers. で「医療従事者たちの多くの英雄的な働きがあった（こと）」です。
heroic work で「英雄的な働き」です。
heroic ヒ・[ロ]ウ・イクで「英雄的な」です。
名詞形は hero [ヒ]ーァロウ「英雄」です。

They found the people and they prevented more infections. で「彼らは病気にかかった人々を見つけて、感染の拡大を未然に防いだ」です。
They found the people で「（病気にかかった）人々を見つけた」です。
and they prevented more infections で「そして、彼らは、さらなる感染拡大を防いだ」となります。
prevent プリ[ヴェ]ントゥは「～を未然に防ぐ」です。
pre-（前に）＋ vent（来る）＝「行く手を阻む」となります。
more infections で「さらに多くの感染」となります。
infection は「感染」という意味の名詞です。
動詞形は infect インフェクトゥ「～を感染させる」です。
例：individual infected with cholera「コレラに感染した人」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
