で「そこでも、また世界中の講演会や瞑想会でも、彼は禅を、その本質において、親身になって人の話を聞くことを通した平和として紹介した。茶色の法衣の下で、平静でしっかりと、彼は注意深く愉快そうな静けさという雰囲気を醸し出していた。時には、いくぶん彼よりも活発なイメージのチベット仏教のリーダー、ダライ・ラマと舞台を共にすることもあった。」という意味になります。

There and in talks and retreats around the world, で「そこでも、そして世界中の講演会や瞑想会でも」です。
and の意味の取り方がすこし難しいところです。
大きなくくりで、there と in talks and retreats ～ が and で繋がっています。
there とは記事の直前で言及されているフランス南部で彼が設立した瞑想施設 Plum Village のことを指しています。
そして、
in talks and retreats around the world で「世界各地での講演会や瞑想会で」です。
talk は名詞で「講演会」です。
retreat はこちらも名詞で「瞑想会、修養道場・合宿施設」といった意味です。
社会から retreat「引きこもっ」て、心静かに瞑想をするイメージです。

he introduced Zen Buddhism as ～ で「彼は禅を～として紹介した」です。
カンマで区切られて挿入的に at its essence で「その本質において」です。
何として紹介したかというと、
(as) peace through compassionate listening. で「思いやりのあるリスニングを通した平和」です。
compassionate listening つまり「相手を思いやりながら人の話に耳を傾けること、傾聴」ですね。

Still and steadfast in his brown robes, で「静かにしっかりと（していながら）、彼の茶色の法衣の下で」です。
still and steadfast はどちらも形容詞なので、 Being が省略された分詞構文と取れます。

he exuded an air of ～ で「～の雰囲気を醸し出していた」です。
exude イグ[ズ]ードゥは「～をにじみ出す、醸し出す」です。液体・気体ともに使えます。
どんな雰囲気かというと、
(an air of) watchful, amused calm, で「用心深くは（あるが）楽しそうな落ち着き（の雰囲気）」です。

sometimes sharing a stage with ～ で「時には、～とステージを共にして、」です。
the somewhat livelier Tibetan Buddhist leader Dalai Lama. で「いくぶん彼よりも活発なイメージのチベット仏教のリーダー、ダライ・ラマと」です。
livelier は lively「元気な、活発な」の比較級となっています。
