In the 1920’s, the German mathematician David Hilbert devised a famous thought experiment to show us just how hard it is to wrap our minds around the concept of infinity. Imagine a hotel with an infinite number of rooms and a very hardworking night manager.

例:the 2020’s「2020年代」

the German mathematician, David Hilbert,

devised a famous thought experiment
just how hard it is to ~ で「~することがいかに大変かを」です。
It is hard to do ~ です。
wrap our minds around the concept of infinity
同じ意味で wrap one’s head around ~get one’s head around ~ とも言えます。
例:I can’t get my head around it.「私にはそれが理解できません。」
I can’t get my head around ~.「~は私の理解力を超えている。」
the concept of infinity

(a hotel with) an infinite number of rooms
an infinite number of ~ で「無数の~、無限の~」です。
同じパターンで「多数の」という意味で、a big number of ~a numerous number of ~ などがあります。
and a very hardworking night manager.
