何に対する研究（studies）かというと、
(of) participants, で「参加者たち（に対する）」
その参加者たちは、
who showed the same levels of cognitive function and neural processing at the start, で「～を示していた、同じレベルの認知機能とニューラル処理、研究開始時点では」です。
the same levels of ～ で「同じレベルの～」
cognitive function「認知機能」と
neural processing で「ニューラル処理」です。
neural は「神経の」ですので「神経系の処理能力」ということでしょうか。

その研究が、
found that ～ で「～ということを発見した」です。
those who were exposed to ～ で「～に晒された人々は」
a period of music learning で「～するある一定の期間、音楽的な習得（をする）」です。
それらの人々は
showed ～「～を示した、～を見せた」です。
enhancement in multiple brain areas で「高まりを、多数の脳のエリアで」です。
enhancement は「増強、高まり、改善」という意味の名詞です。
例：enhanced vocabulary「強化された語彙」
compared to the others. で「その他の人達に比べて」です。
the others と定冠詞がついているので「その他の人々」、ここでは、一定の期間音楽的な習得に晒されていない人たちを指しています。
