while ～「～する一方で」
a more recent study did show that ～ で「より最近の研究が確かに～だと示した（一方で）」
ここの did は強調で「確かに」という意味です。前回の文でバイリンガルが障害とみなされていたことを受けています。
何を示したのかというと、
reaction times and errors increase で「反応時間とミスが増える」
for some bilingual students で「一部のバイリンガルの学生たちでは」です。
in cross-language tests, で「言語をまたいだテストにおいて」

その一方で（while ～）、
, it also showed that ～ で「その研究は～と言うことも示した」
the effort and attention needed to switch between languages までが主語で「努力と集中、言語を切り替えるために必要となる（努力と集中）」です。
その努力と集中が、
triggered more activity で「より多くの活動を引き起こす」です。
trigger ～ で「～を引き起こす、～が起こる引き金となる」です。
