He’s a former city councilor「彼は元市議会議員だった」
who successfully led the battle to ～「（～する）闘いを見事に主導した（市議会議員）」
どんな闘いかというと、
to make Mexico City the first Latin American city「メキシコシティを、初のラテンアメリカの都市にした（闘い）」
make ～ … で「～を…にする」
to pass marriage equality「同性婚の平等を法制化した（初のラテンアメリカの都市）」です。
pass ～ で「法律などを通過させる、可決する」です。
marriage equality は「結婚の平等」と訳せますがここでは「結婚平等法（Marriage Equality Act）」のこと。
これは同性愛カップルの結婚を合法とする法律です。
— even before San Francisco.「しかもサンフランシスコよりも前に」です。
サンフランシスコは同性婚・LGBTQ+権利運動の象徴的な都市なので、「それよりも前に」というのは驚きなので even before となっています。

This is my story too. 「これは私のストーリーでもあります。」
A student in a dorm room,「（それは）寮に住んでいた一人の生徒」
, connecting one community at a time,「ひとつひとつコミュニティを繋げて」です。
one ～ at a time で「一度にひとつずつの～」という意味のコロケーション。
例：complete one job at a time「仕事を一つずつ完成させる」、Please come in one at a time.「一人ずつお入りください。」
, and ～「そして～」
keeping at it until ～「それをやり続けて、～するまで」です。
one day「いつか、ある時、いつの日か」
we connect the whole world.「全世界を繋げる（まで）」
これはフェイスブックのことですね。
