本日の例文
Mark Zuckerberg のハーバード大学の卒業式でのスピーチ（2017年）です。
Here’s a young guy who has every reason to be cynical. He didn’t know if the country he calls home — the only one he’s known — would deny him his dream of going to college. But he wasn’t feeling sorry for himself. He wasn’t even thinking of himself. He has a greater sense of purpose, and he’s going to bring people along with him.

Here’s a young guy who has every reason to be cynical. He didn’t know if the country he calls home — the only one he’s known — would deny him his dream of going to college. But he wasn’t feeling sorry for himself. He wasn’t even thinking of himself. He has a greater sense of purpose, and he’s going to bring people along with him.
で「ここに、冷笑的になってもおかしくない理由がいくらでもある若者がいます。彼には、自分が故郷と呼ぶ国――自分がこれまで知ってきた唯一の国――が、自分の大学進学という夢を奪ってしまうのではないか分かりませんでした。それでも彼は、自分を哀れんではいませんでした。そもそも、自分のことすら考えていませんでした。彼にはもっと大きな使命感があり、そして人々を自分と一緒に前へ連れていこうとしているのです。」という意味になります。

Here’s a young guy who ～ で「ここに～する若い男性がいます」です。
(who) has every reason to be cynical. で「厭世的になってもおかしくない理由がいくらでもある（男性）」です。
have every reason to do ～ で「～するあらゆる理由がある」から転じて「～することは当然だ、～してもおかしくはない」という意味の言い回しになります。
例：He have every reason to turn down your offer.「彼があなたの申し出を断るのはもっともだ。」
cynical は「冷笑的な、厭世的な、ひねくれた」という意味の形容詞。
対義語は optimistic, trusting などです。
He didn’t know if ～「彼は～するかどうか確信が持てなかった」
the country he calls home — the only one he’s known — までが主語で「彼が故郷と呼ぶ国 – 自分が知ってきた唯一の国」です。
その国が、
(if) ～ would deny him his dream of going to college.「彼の大学に行くという夢を否定する（のではないか）」です。
deny ～ … で「～に…を与えない（拒否する）」です。
例：The accident denied him a normal life.「その事故は彼から普通の人生を奪った。」
But ～「しかし～」
he wasn’t feeling sorry for himself.「彼は自己憐憫に浸ってはいなかった。」です。
feel sorry for oneself で「自分のために気の毒に思う」から「自己憐憫に浸る、自分を憐れむ、いじける」です。
He wasn’t even thinking of himself.「彼は自分のことを考えてさえいなかった。」
He has a greater sense of purpose,「彼にはより大きな目的意識がある。」
, and ～「そして～」
he’s going to bring people along with him.「自分と一緒に人々を連れていこうとしているのです。」です。
along with ～ で「～と一緒に、～とともに」
それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

彼は～かどうか確信が持てなかった
