or try to puzzle out if ～「～かどうかを謎解きしよとしたり」です。
(if) that urgent request from their cellphone provider is legitimate. で「携帯会社からの緊急のリクエストが本物（かどうかを）」です。
legitimate [リ]ジティミトゥは「正当な、合法な、本物の、正規の」という意味の形容詞。
