で「ラルフ・ワルド・エマソンはリンカーンのことを『自分の優位性で人を不快にさせることのない男』と評しました。しかし20世紀に到り、私たちは新しい文化、歴史科の言う『個性の文化』に入りました。」という意味になります。

Ralph Waldo Emerson は日本ではエマーソンで有名なアメリカの思想家です。
[エ]マソンと頭にアクセントが来ます。

called him ~ で「彼を~と呼んだ」です。
him とは前出のリンカーンのことですね。

何と呼んだかというと、
“A man who does not offend by superiority.” で「~な人、人を不快にさせない、優位性によって」です。
offend ~ は「~を不快にする、~の気分を害する、怒らせる、背く」という意味の動詞です。
例:offend public opinion「世論を怒らせる」
by superiority で「優位性によって」です。
自分が上の立場であることです。
要するに、自分より下の者たちにも礼儀正しかったということですね。
superiority スィピァリ[ア]リティで「優位性」です。
形容詞形は superior ス・[ピァ]・リ・ァーで「上位の、上官の」で、名詞では「上司」という意味です。

But then we hit the 20th century, で「しかし、その後、私たちは20世紀に到って」です。
この場合の hit は「~に達する、到る」という意味の動詞です。
例:hit middle age「中年になる」

and we entered a new culture (that) ~ で「そして私たちは~という新しい文化に入る」です。

どんな文化かというと、
(that) historians call the culture of personality. で「歴史家たちが個性の文化と呼ぶ~」です。
personality は「個性、人格、性格」という意味の名詞です。
character =「(本当の)道徳的な人格、品性」
personality =「表面的な人格」
でしたね。
personality は「(外から見た時の)人格、個性」という意味です。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
