J.K. Rowling のハーバード大学の卒業式でのスピーチ（2008年）です。

You might never fail on the scale I did, but some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.

で「みなさんは私くらいの規模で失敗をすることはないかもしれません。しかし人生において多少の失敗は不可避です。何かで失敗すること無しに生きるなんて不可能です。非常に注意深く生きない限りは。本当に生きたとは言えないくらい注意深くです。それでは最初から失敗していることになります。」という意味になります。

You might never fail で「みなさんは失敗することはないかもしれない」です。
on the scale I did, で「私が失敗した規模では」です。
on the scale (that) ～ で「～した規模で」という意味の言い回しです。
例：a market on the scale of $10 billion「100億ドル規模の市場」
, but ～「しかし～」
some failure in life is inevitable. で「人生での多少の失敗は避けることができない」です。
inevitable イ[ネ]ヴィタボォで「不可避な、避けられない」という意味の形容詞。

It is impossible to do ～ で「～することは不可能だ」
(to) live without failing at something, で「何かに失敗すること無しに生きる（こと）」
fail at ～ で「～で失敗する」です。
例：fail at marriage「結婚に失敗する」
, unless ～「～しない限りは」
(unless) you live so cautiously that ～ で「～するほど非常に注意深く生き（ない限りは）」です。
so ～ that … で「…するほど～だ、あまりに～で…である」という意味の言い回しです。
you might as well not have lived at all で「少しも生きていないのと同じ（くらい）」です。
might as well ～ で「～する方がましだ」という意味の言い回し。
not ～ at all で「少しも～しない」という意味のコロケーション。
例：You might as well ask me not to breathe.「息をするなと言っているようなものだ。（無理な相談だ）」
– in which case, ～ で「そんなことでは、それでは～」
you fail by default. で「最初から失敗している」です。
by default で「初期段階で、初めから、戦わずして」という意味になります。
例：lose by default「不戦勝になる」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
