で「彼の作曲のやり方はそれ以来大きく変化しました。作品自体が変わったわけではありません。作品自体は今までと同じく暗いものが多かったのです。でも仕事の進め方が変わったのです。それを取り巻いていた重苦しい不安は解放されました。彼の中でトラブルばかり起こしていたジーニーを自分自身から取り出した時に。」という意味になります。

前回から引き続き、ミュージシャンのトム・ウェイツの話です。

his whole work process changed after that で「彼の全体的な作曲の進め方が変化した、それ以来」です。
work はここではミュージシャンなので「作曲」です。

Not the work, で「作品ではない」です。
the work was still oftentimes as dark as ever. で「作品は、変わらずに、しばしば、今まで同様に暗かった」です。
still は「変わらずに」という意味の副詞です。
as ～ as ever も「今までと同じくらい～で」となります。
the work「作品」の曲調は暗いままだったということです。

But the process, and the heavy anxiety around it で「でも、そのプロセス、そしてそれを取り巻く重い不安」です。
process は「作曲の進め方、やり方」です。
the heavy anxiety around it で「そしてそれの周りの重苦しい不安」です。
it は the process を指しています。
was released で「～は、解放された」です。

when he took the genie, the genius out of him で「彼がジーニーを自分の中から取り出した時に」です。
要するに作品を創り出す genius「才能、天才」を自分の資質として見るのではなく、
自分から分離して、「精霊（genie）」として考えるという事です。
take ～ out of … で「…から～を取り出す」です。

where it was causing nothing but trouble. で「（その彼の中では）それは問題ばかり起こしていた」です。
where は him を指して、彼の中にいた時は問題ばかり起こしていた、という事です。
nothing but ～ で「～ばかり、～しか」です。
例：nothing but rumors「うわさでしかない」、do nothing but work「仕事ばかりする」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
