哲学者ショーペンハウアーの言葉です。孤独と自由について。

A man can be himself only so long as he is alone, and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom, for it is only when he is alone that he is really free.
で「人は一人でいる間のみ自分自身でいられる。そしてもし孤独を愛さない人がいれば、その人は自由も愛していないことになる。なぜならば、人が本当に自由なのは一人でいる時だけだからだ。」という意味になります。

A man can be himself で「人は自分自身でいられる、人は自然体でいられる」です。
man や he は「男」という意味ですが「人間、人」という意味でも使われます。

so long as ～ は as long as と同じ意味で「～する限りは、～する間は」という意味です。
only so long as ～ なので「～の限りにおいてのみ、～する間だけ」という意味です。
only so long as he is alone なので「一人でいる間だけ」です。

if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom で「孤独を愛さないならば、自由も愛さないだろう」です。
solitude はサリチュードゥは「孤独」という意味の名詞です。
他の人がいないことによる寂しさだけでなくその自由さを歓迎する意味も表すことができます。
例：live in solitude in the country「田舎でひっそりと暮らす」、long for solitude「孤独を熱望する、一人になりたいと思う」

for it is only when he is alone that he is really free. で「なぜならば本当に自由であるのは一人の時だけだからだ。」という意味になります。
最初の for は接続詞の for です。「なぜならば～だから」という意味です。たまにこういう使われ方をするので覚えておきましょう。
文法的には、it is ～ that … の形で、～の部分に only when he is alone「一人でいる時だけ」が入った形です。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

人は自然体でいられる

only so long as he is alone,
一人でいる間においてのみ

and
そして

if he does not love solitude,
もし孤独を愛さないならば

he will not love freedom,
自由も愛さないだろう
