本日の例文

先日ノーベル文学賞を受賞したボブ・ディラン（Bob Dylan）の言葉です。

You’re going to die. You’re going to be dead. It could be 20 years, it could be tomorrow, anytime. So am I. I mean, we’re just going to be gone. The world’s going to go on without us. All right now. You do your job in the face of that, and how seriously you take yourself you decide for yourself.

で「君はいつかは死ぬ。いつか死人になる。それは20歳かもしれないし明日かもわからない。私も同じだ。私が言いたいのは、みんないつかはいなくなる。世界は僕たちがいなくても回っていく。ならいいじゃないか。君はそういう死というものを目前にして、自分だけのこだわりに肩肘を張り過ぎてはないかい？」という意味になります。

You’re going to die で「あなたはいつかは死ぬ」という意味になります。
be going to ～ は「～することになっている」という予定の意味を表します。
die は「死ぬ」という意味の動詞。
dead は「死んでいる」という意味の形容詞です。be dead なので「死んでいる、死体になる」という意味合いです。

It could be ～ は「～かもしれない、～とも言える」という意味の言い回しです。
例：Be careful. It could be a trap.「気を付けろ。罠かもしれない。」

So am I は「私もです」という意味ですね。

going to be gone も「いつかは死ぬ、いつかはいなくなる」です。
gone にも「死ぬ、逝去する」という意味があります。
例：He is gone.「彼は亡くなった。」

All right now. は「それならいいじゃないか。もういいじゃないか。」と言った意味合いですね。

You do your job in the face of that で「あなたはそのことを目前に自分の仕事をしている」です。
that「そのこと」とは、前文の「人は明日死ぬかもしれない」ということです。

how seriously you take yourself you decide for yourself で「自分で決めたこだわりになんて深刻になり過ぎていることだろう」です。
how ～ は「なんと～だろう」という感嘆文ですが、「～しすぎじゃないのかい？」という意味合いに訳せますね。
take oneself seriously は「肩肘を張る、真剣に考えすぎる」という意味の言い回しです。
例：Don’t take yourself so seriously.「そんな深刻に考えすぎないで。」
you decide for yourself で「自分で決めたこと」です。
decide for oneself で「自分で決める、自ら決断する」という意味になります。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

君はいつかは死ぬ

いつかは死体になる

それは20歳かもしれない
