I am going to start with a challenge. I want you to imagine each of these two scenes in as much detail as you can. Scene number one: “They gave us a hearty welcome.” Well, who are the people who are giving a hearty welcome? What are they wearing? What are they drinking?

I am going to start with a challenge. I want you to imagine each of these two scenes in as much detail as you can. Scene number one: “They gave us a hearty welcome.” Well, who are the people who are giving a hearty welcome? What are they wearing? What are they drinking?
で「まず手始めに、みなさんに課題を出したいと思います。これらの二つのシーンをできるだけ詳細にイメージしてみてください。シーン１は、『彼らは心のこもった歓迎（a hearty welcome）をしてくれた。』　さて、心のこもった歓迎をしているのは誰でしょう？ 彼らはどんな服装でしょう？ 彼らは何を飲んでいるでしょう？」という意味になります。

I am going to start with a challenge. で「一つ課題から始めようと思います」です。
start with ～ で「～で始める」
challenge はここでは「（難しいがやりがいがある）課題、問題」です。

I want you to imagine ～ で「みなさんに～を想像してもらいたい」
want ～ to do … で「～に…して欲しい」です。
何を想像して欲しいのかというと、
(imagine) each of these two scenes で「これら２つのシーンをそれぞれ（想像して欲しい）」
in as much detail as you can.「できるだけ詳しく」は、
in detail「詳細に」という表現に、
as much ～ as … が組み合わさった形です。
例：analyze ～ in detail「～を詳細に分析する」

Scene number one: で「シーン１（はこちらです）」
“They gave us a hearty welcome.” で「彼らは私たちに心のこもった歓迎をした。」です。
a hearty welcome で「心からの歓迎」という意味の言い回しです。
例：receive a hearty welcome「心からの歓待を受ける」
Well, ～「さて～」
who are the people who are giving a hearty welcome? で「心のこもった歓迎をしてくれている人々は誰でしょう？」

What are they wearing? で「その人たちはどんな服装をしているでしょう？」
What are they drinking? で「彼らは何を飲んでいるでしょう？」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

みなさんに～を想像して欲しいと思います
