I was like, “Let me think about this for a second.” I tried to call deep on my courage. And I thought, you know, I am a storyteller. I’m a qualitative researcher. I collect stories; that’s what I do. And maybe stories are just data with a soul. And maybe I’m just a storyteller. And so I said, “You know what? Why don’t you just say I’m a researcher-storyteller.” And she went, “Ha ha. There’s no such thing.”

And maybe stories are just data with a soul. And maybe I’m just a storyteller. And so I said, “You know what? Why don’t you just say I’m a researcher-storyteller.” And she went, “Ha ha. There’s no such thing.”
で「私は、『ちょっと考えさせてください』と言いました。そして、自分の勇気を心の奥底から奮い起こそうとしました。そして、こう考えたのです。『そうだ、私はストーリーテラーなんだ。私は質的研究者で、物語を集めることを仕事にしている。もしかすると、物語というのは、魂の宿ったデータにすぎないのかもしれない。そして、私は結局のところ、ただのストーリーテラーなのかもしれない』そこで私は言いました。『こういうのはどうですか。私のことを “研究者兼ストーリーテラー” と紹介してもらえませんか』 すると彼女は笑って『ハハハ、そんなものは存在しませんよ』と言いました。」という意味になります。

“Let me think about this for a second.” 「ちょっと考えさせて。」
I tried to call deep on my courage.「私は勇気を心の奥底から奮い起こそうとしました。」です。
call on ～ で「～を招集する」です。
And I thought, 「そして私は思いました。」
you know,「そう」
I am a storyteller.「私はストーリーテラーなんだ。」
I’m a qualitative researcher.「私は質的研究者だ。」
qualitative ク[ウォ]リテイティヴで「質的な」という意味の形容詞。
qualitative research「質的研究」とは、数値化できない人々の「体験、感情、行動、意味付け」などの言語・テキストデータを用いて、その背後にあるメカニズムや背景事情を深く理解・記述しようとする研究手法です。
対応するのが、quantitative research「量的研究」（数値・統計データなどを用いる）です。
I collect stories;「私は体験談を集めている。」
that’s what I do.「それが私がやっていること。」
And maybe ～「そして多分」
stories are just data with a soul.「体験談は魂を伴ったただのデータかもしれない。」

And so I said,「それで私はこう言いました」
“You know what? 「それだったら～」
You know what? は会話でよく使う表現で発言の前に「ちょっといい？、あのさ？、ねえねえ？」などという意味です。
Why don’t you just say I’m a researcher-storyteller.”「私が研究者兼ストーリーテラーと言ったらどうでしょう？」

And she went, 「すると彼女はこう答えた」です。
ここでの went は said と同じ意味です。
“Ha ha. There’s no such thing.”「はは、そんなものはありませんよ。」

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

I was like,
私はこんな風に言いました

“Let me think about this for a second.”
ちょっと考えさせて

I tried to call deep on my courage.
私は心の奥底から勇気を振り絞って

And I thought,
私は考えました

you know, I am a storyteller.
そうだ、私はストーリーテラーだ

I’m a qualitative researcher.
私は質的研究者

I collect stories;
物語を集めている

that’s what I do.
それが私のやっていること

And maybe stories are just data with a soul.
そして物語は魂を伴ったデータに過ぎないのかもしれない

And maybe I’m just a storyteller.
だから私はストーリーテラーなのかも

And so I said,
それで私は言いました

“You know what?
それでしたら

Why don’t you just say
～と言ったらどうでしょう？

I’m a researcher-storyteller.”
私が研究者兼ストーリーテラーだと

And she went,
彼女は言いました

“Ha ha. There’s no such thing.”
ハハハ、そんなものは存在しませんよ

今度は「頭の中で」一行ずつ日本語に訳しながら…
