で「しかし、多くの国際空港のように、成田は必ずしも目的地の主要都市のすぐそばにあるわけではない。」という意味になります。

like ～ は「～のように、～と同じように」という意味になります。

Narita is not exactly on the doorstep of ～ で「成田は必ずしも～のすぐそばではない」
not exactly は「かならずしも～ではない、～とはちょっとちがう」という意味の言い回しです。
話し言葉でもよく使うので覚えておきましょう。
例：not exactly cheap「必ずしも安いとは言えない」
on the doorstep は「すぐそばで、目の前で」という意味の慣用句です。
doorstep　は「玄関前の小さな階段、戸口」のことです。
玄関を開けたらすぐ！というようなイメージですね。

何のすぐそばではないのかというと、
of a major destination city で「主要な目的地の都市」です。
成田からの目的地といえば、東京のことですね。
major は「主要な、大きな」という意味の形容詞です。
対義語は、minor マイナーで「小さな、二流の、小規模な」です。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。
